The Docklands Invitational brings world class yacht racing into the heart of the city.
The 'invitation only' event will see some of Australia's best yachts gather at Waterfront City for a five race series. The invited fleet is expected to include some of the best performed IRC yachts from Australia and beyond, with a vast majority making their return from the Rolex Sydney Hobart.
The series will be organised by Royal Geelong Yacht Club as part of an expanded Geelong Week. This historic sporting event includes 110 races and is Victoria's oldest sporting event.
Geelong Week attracts in excess of 450 yachts, approx 4500 sailors and an estimated 100,000 visitors. For more information on Geelong Week please visit www.geelongweek.com
Denis Thompson, PRO for Skandia Geelong Race Week confessed to being “a little anxious about the breeze” as he addressed the yacht owners, skippers and sponsors who gathered for the inaugural Skandia Docklands Invitational Owners Breakfast this morning.
Organisers were forced to cancel the Audi King of the Docklands this afternoon due to big northerly winds which blew in excess of 25 knots constantly throughout the day forcing the cancellation of all sailing events at Skandia Geelong Week.
